THE CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES CENTER MAKES GROUNDBREAKING MOVE

Charlotte, North Carolina –September 25, 2008 -- The Children and Family Services Center (CFSC) is pleased to announce a groundbreaking move that will save money, increase the quality of service and allow its six partner agencies to concentrate on delivering core services to families in our community.

CFSC is consolidating and sharing the financial and human resource services of each agency into one. The implementation will be partially funded by a generous grant from The Duke Endowment*.  Building on the foundation of previous successful collaborations, a Shared Services organization will be established within the current structure of the CFSC to provide administrative operations including human resources, finance, and accounting.

By sharing these services across agencies, the Children and Family Services Center will provide consistent quality and breadth of service at a competitive cost, allowing partner agencies to more effectively deploy resources focused on their core missions – helping children and families in our community.

The participating agencies include:

  • A Child’s Place
  • Children and Family Services Center
  • Community Health Services
  • Community Link
  • Council for Children’s Rights
  • United Family Services

The Shared Services organization is designed so that ongoing operations will be self-sustaining. By combining administrative functions, the agencies intend to reduce the overall costs of HR and financial services, to expand capacity to better manage their core businesses of assisting people in need, to improve risk management and to provide a higher level of transparency to assure the community that these agencies are good stewards of community resources.

Bruce Steen, President of the Board of Directors CFSC said “In this current economic climate, the needs of the families served by these agencies are increasing dramatically, while the financial support of human service agencies is in danger of decreasing.  The partner agencies of CFSC work hard every day to be as efficient and effective as they can be, so that they might better serve children and families in need.  We are proud of the example they set for nonprofit management.”

The CFSC was created in 2000 to improve the lives of children and families through an innovative partnership of community resources that promotes strong families and advocates for change.  The initial collaborative effort was the construction of a building at 5th and Davidson in Charlotte to co-locate nine local nonprofits and to promote collaboration. Partner agencies currently share space, technology, and many program services.
